SUN 'N FUN ANNOUNCES HALF-PRICE WEEKEND FOR FLORIDA RESIDENTS AND ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY
SUN 'N FUN CAMPUS, LAKELAND, Fla. - (March 28, 2007) - Sun 'n Fun will cut its regular admission rates in half for Florida residents and military personnel during the weekend portion of the Fly-In's seven-day run.
The Sun 'n Fun Fly-In will take place at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport April 17 – 23. On Saturday and Sunday, April 21 and 22, Florida residents and military personnel can gain admission to the event for $15 per person per day, $5 for children age 12-17. Children 12 and under have always been free. Regular adult admission is $30.
"When you combine this new weekend admission policy with other new Sun 'n Fun features such as the open flightline policy and the Aaron Tippin concert on Saturday night, you have an aviation experience that is as unforgettable as it is affordable," said John Burton, Sun 'n Fun's President and Convention Chairman. "Sun 'n Fun's mission is to introduce people of all ages to aviation and these new programs and activities all help accomplish that."
Sun n Fun previously announced that the "flightline" area of the Fly-In - which is where all the airplanes are parked - will be open to all Fly-In guests. In past years, the flightline area was restricted to pilots or members of the Florida Air Museum (FAM) or the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). In addition, the Fly-In will also feature a concert by country music star Aaron Tippin on Saturday, April 21, at 7 p.m. that is included with the discounted admission package.
Families will find an expanded youth activities area on the Fly-In site located next to the Tom Davis Education Center. It includes a healthy menu of aviation-related, "hands on" activities that include: kite making, rib building, model rocket building and parachute and wind sock construction. "Scamp," an airplane donated especially for kids and the "Kid Air II" - a hydraulic, kid-controlled simulator - will also be located in the youth activities area.
Inside the Davis Center, a flight simulator lab, pizza parlor, multimedia presentations and movies provide Sun 'n Fun's younger guests with even more activities. A kid's playground rounds out the activities.
To receive the discount, guests must present a valid Florida photo identification and/or active duty or retired military ID. This preferred discount is limited to immediate family members and is non-transferable.
Admission to the Fly-In also includes access to more than 400 informative forums, seminars and workshops; 500-plus commercial exhibitors; a daily air show plus a night air show on Friday, April 20, that includes fireworks; access to airplane and helicopter rides (additional fee); aircraft of every size and shape that cover aviation’s rich heritage; people from each of the 50 United States and more than 65 foreign countries; and much more.
Sun 'n Fun, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization based in Lakeland, Florida, is best known for its annual Fly-In held each April. The Fly-In is the primary source of funding for Sun 'n Fun's expanding year-round aviation education programs. These include operation of the Florida Air Museum, the state's "Official Aviation Museum and Education Center," which is also supported through grants from the Division of Historical Resources and Division of Cultural Affairs, Florida Department of State. In addition, Sun 'n Fun has initiated education programs for aviation enthusiasts of all ages - especially young people - featuring valuable "hands on" learning experiences. A growing scholarship program provides financial support to ensure Sun 'n Fun’s education programs are accessible to all.
